ACID GAS SCRUBBER

Emissions Control for Vent and Flare Streams

ERGIL manufactures acid gas scrubbers that remove residual H₂S and CO₂ from vent streams, regenerator off-gas, and low-pressure releases before atmospheric discharge. These wet scrubbing systems use chemical absorption to meet environmental regulations, protect personnel safety, and eliminate odor complaints from gas processing operations.

Scrubbing Process

Acid gas streams enter the scrubber tower where they contact alkaline scrubbing solution flowing countercurrent through packed beds or spray stages. Caustic soda (NaOH) or amine solutions chemically absorb H₂S and CO₂, neutralizing acid gases into non-volatile salts or regenerable compounds. Cleaned gas exits the top with H₂S reduced to ppm levels meeting discharge limits. Spent scrubbing solution drains for disposal or regeneration depending on chemistry selected.

System Design

ERGIL engineers scrubbers based on gas flow rate, inlet acid gas concentration, required removal efficiency, and available scrubbing chemicals. Vertical packed towers provide efficient gas-liquid contact with low pressure drop. Structured packing or random media selected for application. Mist eliminators prevent liquid carryover. Recirculation pumps maintain scrubbing solution flow rates. pH monitoring controls chemical feed maintaining absorption efficiency.

Scrubbing Solutions

Caustic systems use sodium hydroxide for high H₂S removal with spent solution disposal or sulfur recovery. Amine solutions enable regeneration and acid gas concentration for disposal. Specialty formulations target specific contaminants or operating conditions. ERGIL selects chemistry based on gas composition, environmental requirements, and operating economics balancing chemical costs against disposal expenses.

Applications

Amine regenerator overhead treating, tank vent emissions control, compressor seal gas cleaning, low-pressure flare gas scrubbing, and biogas H₂S removal. Protects workers and communities from toxic H₂S exposure. Meets environmental permits for sulfur dioxide emissions. Eliminates odor problems from gas processing facilities, refineries, and wastewater treatment plants.

Equipment Features

Compact skid-mounted designs for easy installation. Corrosion-resistant materials including FRP, stainless steel, or coated carbon steel handle aggressive scrubbing environments. Chemical feed systems with storage tanks and metering pumps. Instrumentation monitors pH, flow rates, and differential pressure. Optional odor control chemicals enhance performance for low-concentration applications.

Performance Standards

Achieves H₂S removal to below 10 ppm outlet concentration from inlet levels up to 10,000 ppm. CO₂ reduction depends on chemistry and contact stages. Pressure drop typically 2-10 inches water column. Operating temperatures ambient to 65°C. Flow capacities from 100 to 50,000 SCFM depending on tower sizing.

ERGIL acid gas scrubbers deliver reliable emissions control with proven wet scrubbing technology, ensuring environmental compliance and safe operations.
