VERTICAL SURGE TANK (DOUBLE COMPARTMENT)
Dual-Phase Oilfield Liquid Storage
ERGIL manufactures vertical double compartment surge tanks providing separated storage for oil and water in production facilities. These atmospheric vessels with internal partition buffer production variations enabling independent liquid handling in wellhead batteries and gathering systems.
Double Compartment Design
Single vertical tank divided by internal partition creating two separate storage volumes. One side collects oil, other side handles produced water. Shared shell reduces footprint and cost versus separate tanks. Independent inlets, outlets, and level controls for each compartment.
Surge Function
Production rates vary with well performance and operating conditions. Surge tank absorbs flow fluctuations providing steady supply to downstream pumps or treatment. Buffer capacity prevents upstream shutdowns from temporary downstream issues.
Atmospheric Operation
Operates at atmospheric pressure simplifying design and reducing cost. Vent connections release vapors to flare or recovery. Pressure-vacuum relief prevents tank damage from thermal expansion or atmospheric changes. Simple open-top or cone roof design.
Partition Design
Internal wall separating compartments prevents cross-contamination. Full-height partition with proper sealing. Adequate strength for liquid head differential. Access manholes in each compartment enable inspection and cleaning.
Material Selection
Carbon steel construction for oilfield production fluids. Internal coating protects against corrosion from produced water containing salts and acids. External coating resists atmospheric exposure. Foundation for tank weight plus liquid load.
Capacity Sizing
Each compartment sized for production surge requirements typically 30-120 minutes of average flow. Oil side based on crude production rate. Water side handles produced water volume. Balance between surge capacity and plot space.
Applications
Wellhead production batteries, central tank batteries, gathering system surge, enhanced recovery operations, and any oilfield production requiring separated oil and water storage with minimal footprint.
Level Control
Independent level instruments in each compartment. High-level alarms prevent overflow. Low-level protection stops transfer pumps. Automated controls coordinate with upstream separation and downstream pumping.
Liquid Outlets
Oil outlet to storage or pipeline typically near tank bottom. Water outlet to disposal or treatment system. Pumps take suction from outlets requiring adequate liquid head. Drain connections enable complete tank emptying.
Vapor Handling
Oil compartment vent routes to flare or vapor recovery preventing hydrocarbon emissions. Water side vents to atmosphere. Proper vent sizing prevents vacuum or overpressure. Flame arresters where required for vapor control.
Performance Benefits
Provides essential surge capacity stabilizing production operations. Separated compartments eliminate need for two tanks saving space and cost. Simple atmospheric storage with proven reliability.
Construction Standards
Design per API 650 for atmospheric storage tanks. Materials for oilfield service. Foundation for total weight including liquids. Complete documentation with capacity calculations and structural design.
ERGIL vertical double compartment surge tanks provide space-efficient separated liquid storage managing production variations in oilfield operations.
