DEGAS / DEAERATOR VESSEL

Dissolved Gas Removal from Water

ERGIL manufactures degas and deaerator vessels removing dissolved oxygen and carbon dioxide from water preventing corrosion and scaling in boilers and high-purity systems. These vessels use thermal or vacuum stripping achieving low dissolved gas concentrations.

Degassing Purpose

Water absorbs oxygen and CO2 causing severe corrosion in boilers and high-temperature systems. Oxygen pitting damages boiler tubes. CO2 forms carbonic acid corroding condensate systems. Degassing eliminates these gases protecting equipment.

Thermal Deaeration

Heats water to saturation temperature where gas solubility drops near zero. Steam injection or heating releases dissolved gases. Vent removes liberated gases. Deaerated water maintains temperature preventing reabsorption.

Vacuum Degassing

Reduces pressure lowering gas solubility. Spray or packed bed increases surface area for gas release. Vacuum pump removes liberated gases. Effective for temperature-sensitive applications or moderate deaeration requirements.

Vessel Configuration

Vertical or horizontal pressure vessel with water inlet spray or distributor, heating section or vacuum chamber, vent removing gases, deaerated water storage, outlet to boiler feed pumps. Design provides contact time for target gas removal.

Operating Pressure

Thermal deaerators typically 5-20 psig maintaining saturation temperature 110-125C. Vacuum units operate 50-100 mmHg absolute. Design pressure per ASME codes with appropriate safety factors.

Performance Levels

Reduces dissolved oxygen to under 7 ppb meeting boiler feedwater standards. CO2 removal to under 5 ppm. High-purity systems achieve under 5 ppb oxygen using advanced designs.

Material Selection

Carbon steel for thermal deaerators handling feedwater. Stainless steel for high-purity or corrosive applications. Design accommodates operating temperature and thermal cycling.

Spray Design

Nozzles or trays maximize water surface area contacting steam or vacuum. Proper distribution critical for gas release efficiency. Spray section sized for adequate residence time.

Storage Section

Integral storage maintains deaerated water at temperature. Provides pump suction with adequate NPSH. Typical storage 5-10 minutes boiler demand. Level control manages inventory.

Applications

Power plant boiler feedwater, industrial boiler systems, high-purity water for pharmaceuticals and electronics, district heating, process steam generation requiring corrosion-free water.

Vent System

Continuously removes liberated gases preventing reabsorption. Vent rate balances gas removal versus steam losses in thermal units. Vacuum system maintains pressure in vacuum degassers.

Chemical Supplement

Oxygen scavengers like sodium sulfite supplement mechanical deaeration removing residual oxygen traces. Combined treatment achieves ultra-low oxygen for critical applications.

Performance Benefits

Eliminates oxygen corrosion extending boiler life decades. Prevents CO2 condensate system corrosion. Reduces chemical treatment costs. Essential technology for quality steam systems.

Construction Standards

Pressure vessels per ASME Section VIII. Relief protection per codes. Materials for feedwater service. Complete documentation with deaeration performance guarantees and capacity calculations.

ERGIL degas and deaerator vessels provide reliable dissolved gas removal protecting boilers and high-purity water systems from corrosion damage.
