NEUTRALIZATION TANK & MIXER

Wastewater pH Adjustment System

ERGIL manufactures neutralization tanks with mixing systems adjusting acidic or alkaline wastewater pH to neutral before discharge or reuse. These reactor vessels provide residence time and agitation ensuring complete chemical reaction meeting environmental regulations.

Neutralization Purpose

Industrial processes generate acidic or alkaline wastewater requiring pH adjustment before discharge. Regulations typically require pH 6-9 for sewer or surface water discharge. Neutralization protects receiving water and treatment facilities.

Tank Configuration

Open-top or covered atmospheric tank with wastewater inlet, chemical injection point, mixer ensuring uniform pH, pH monitoring and control, retention volume for reaction completion, discharge to sewer or further treatment.

Mixing System

Top-entry agitator with impeller design creating top-to-bottom circulation. Variable speed control adjusts intensity. Proper mixing critical for rapid pH adjustment and preventing stratification. Motor sized for wastewater viscosity and tank geometry.

Chemical Addition

Acid neutralizes alkaline waste - sulfuric or hydrochloric acid common. Caustic or lime neutralizes acidic waste. Chemical injection upstream of mixer enables rapid dispersion. Dosing controlled by pH feedback.

pH Control

Inline or immersion pH probes measure wastewater pH. Controller modulates chemical feed valve maintaining discharge pH setpoint. Two-stage control common - coarse adjustment then fine trim achieving target.

Material Selection

Concrete, FRP, or polyethylene construction for corrosion resistance. Stainless steel for aggressive chemicals. Mixer components resist acid and caustic exposure. Materials handle chemical reaction heat generation.

Retention Time

Volume provides 15-60 minutes residence ensuring complete neutralization. Longer times for difficult-to-neutralize wastes or variable influent pH. Adequate capacity prevents discharge pH excursions.

Operating Capacity

Sized for peak wastewater flow with safety margin. Typical design 110-150% maximum flow. Level control manages inventory coordinating inlet and outlet flows.

Applications

Metal finishing rinse water neutralization, chemical plant wastewater, acid or caustic cleaning waste, battery manufacturing effluent, mining process water, and any industrial waste requiring pH adjustment.

Two-Stage Design

High-strength wastes benefit from two-stage neutralization. First stage bulk adjustment, second stage fine control. Staged approach reduces chemical consumption and improves control stability.

Safety Features

High and low pH alarms prevent discharge violations. Overflow protection during level upsets. Ventilation for chemical vapors. Proper grounding and bonding. Emergency chemical shutdown.

Monitoring Systems

Continuous pH measurement at discharge with recording. Flow totalization tracks treated volume. Data logging documents compliance. Integration with plant controls coordinates with upstream operations.

Performance Benefits

Ensures regulatory compliance for wastewater discharge. Protects sewer systems and treatment plants. Enables water reuse through pH adjustment. Simple proven neutralization technology.

Construction Standards

Tank design per applicable standards for chemical service. Mixer per ANSI/AGMA standards. pH control per manufacturer specifications. Complete documentation with capacity calculations and control logic.

ERGIL neutralization tanks with mixers provide reliable wastewater pH adjustment ensuring environmental compliance in industrial discharge applications.
