BAG FILTER HOUSING
Economical Multi-Bag Filtration System
ERGIL manufactures bag filter housings providing economical liquid filtration using disposable filter bags. These vessels accommodate single or multiple bags offering flexible capacity and micron ratings protecting equipment and polishing products across industrial applications.
Bag Filtration Advantages
Filter bags provide large surface area in compact vessel. Disposable bags eliminate cleaning reducing labor. Easy micron rating changes for different applications. Lower capital cost than cartridge systems for moderate filtration requirements.
Housing Design
Vertical pressure vessel with hinged or bolted cover, bag support basket preventing bag collapse, inlet connection directing flow into bags, outlet connection from filtered liquid, drain valve for maintenance.
Single vs Multi-Bag
Single bag housings for flows to 100 GPM. Multi-bag configurations 2-24 bags for higher capacity systems. Parallel bag arrangement shares flow load. Modular design suits varying flow requirements.
Filter Bag Construction
Felt, mesh, or melt-blown polypropylene bags. Typical ratings 1-200 microns. Standard sizes 7x32 inches for #2 bags handling 10-20 GPM each. Sewn or welded seams. Galvanized or stainless steel support rings.
Operating Pressure
Design pressure 150 psig typical for industrial applications. Higher ratings available for high-pressure services. Cover quick-opening or bolted depending on pressure. Swing bolt closures enable rapid bag changes.
Material Options
Carbon steel with epoxy coating for water and mild chemicals. Stainless steel 304/316 for corrosives, food, and pharmaceutical applications. Polypropylene housings for aggressive chemicals. Material selection based on fluid compatibility.
Flow Capacity
Single bag 10-20 GPM depending on viscosity and contaminant loading. Multi-bag housings multiply capacity - 8-bag vessel handles 80-160 GPM. Proper sizing prevents bag collapse from excessive pressure drop.
Bag Selection
Micron rating chosen for application - coarse 100-200 micron for pre-filtration, medium 10-50 micron for general use, fine 1-5 micron for polishing. Felt for depth filtration, mesh for surface capture.
Differential Pressure
Pressure gauge monitors DP across bags. Clean DP 2-5 psi depending on bag rating and flow. High DP 15-30 psi signals bag saturation requiring replacement. Simple visual monitoring.
Bag Replacement
System shutdown or bypass enables cover opening. Used bags lift out by support ring. Inspect basket for damage. Install new bags ensuring proper seating. Close cover and return to service. 5-10 minute changeover.
Applications
Cooling water filtration, process water polishing, chemical and solvent filtration, paint and coating filtration, plating solution cleanup, oil and fuel filtration, wastewater treatment.
Inlet Configuration
Top inlet basket configuration directs flow into bag opening. Side inlet designs for space constraints. Proper inlet design prevents bag collapse and ensures even flow distribution across multiple bags.
Disposal Considerations
Used bags disposable reducing labor versus cleanable cartridges. Disposal of contaminated bags per environmental regulations. Some applications incinerate or landfill depending on contaminants captured.
Performance Benefits
Economical filtration for moderate capacity applications. Quick bag changes minimize downtime. Flexible micron ratings for varying requirements. Lower maintenance versus cleanable systems.
Construction Standards
Pressure vessels per ASME Section VIII where applicable. Atmospheric or low-pressure housings per manufacturer standards. Materials compatible with process fluids. Complete documentation with capacity specifications.
