SWIRL TUBE CENTRIFUGAL SEPARATOR
High-Capacity Gas–Liquid Separation in a Compact Vessel
Ergil manufactures swirl tube centrifugal separators that remove liquid droplets and mist from gas streams using centrifugal force. Gas enters many small tubes, spins through swirl elements and throws droplets to the tube wall. Liquid drains away while clean gas leaves through the top. The design handles higher gas velocity than wire mesh or vane internals, so vessels become smaller and lighter.
Swirl Tube Principle
Swirl element gives gas a rotating flow. Centrifugal force pushes droplets outward to the wall. A liquid film drains through slots or the tube bottom into the liquid section.
Vessel Layout
Inlet device, bulk separation zone, swirl tube deck with many tubes in parallel, gas outlet, liquid sump and drain. Vertical and horizontal arrangements available.
Capacity
Allows gas velocities well above conventional mesh pads. Smaller vessel diameter for the same flow. Suited to high pressure and high gas density where capacity is critical.
Separation Performance
Removes fine droplets with efficiencies above 99% for typical droplet sizes. Performance verified against the customer liquid carry-over limit.
Pressure Drop
Low and stable, usually tens of millibar across the tube deck. Little change as flow varies within the design range.
Turndown and Surges
Wide operating range. Tolerates liquid slugs with proper inlet device and drain. Marine and floating units supported by motion-tolerant design.
Fouling Resistance
Open tubes resist plugging by waxes, hydrates and sticky solids better than mesh pads. Cleaning access to the tube deck.
Materials
Carbon steel for general service. Stainless steel tubes for corrosive or sour service. NACE-compliant materials on request.
Applications
Compressor suction scrubbers, fuel gas scrubbers, glycol contactor inlet and outlet, gas export lines, flare knockout drums, offshore platforms and FPSOs, LNG and gas plants.
Retrofit Option
Swirl tube decks can replace mesh or vane internals in existing vessels to raise capacity without new shells.
Instrumentation and Control
Level gauges and transmitters, high-level alarm and trips, differential pressure indication across the deck.
Construction Standards
ASME Section VIII, NACE MR0175 where required, weld and material records, hydrotest, FAT and documentation.
Ergil swirl tube separators increase gas handling capacity and protect compressors, contactors and downstream equipment from liquid carry-over.
