VENT RE-HEAT EXCHANGER

Stack Gas Reheating for Plume and Condensation Control

ERGIL manufactures vent reheat exchangers that increase exhaust gas temperature before atmospheric discharge preventing visible plumes, condensation, and freezing at stack outlets. These heat exchangers improve stack dispersion, eliminate aesthetic concerns, and protect discharge structures in refinery, chemical, and power generation facilities.

Reheating Function

Treated vent gases from scrubbers, condensers, or process vents exit at 30-60°C containing moisture that condenses in cold ambient air creating visible white plumes. Low temperature also causes poor buoyancy and potential icing at stack tips. Reheating to 80-120°C vaporizes moisture, eliminates visible plumes, improves dispersion, and prevents ice formation ensuring safe reliable atmospheric discharge.

Design Configuration

Shell-and-tube or coil-type exchangers with cold vent gas heated by steam, hot oil, or waste heat recovery. Compact design suits installation in vent headers before stack inlet. ERGIL engineers reheaters based on vent gas flow rate, inlet temperature, required temperature rise, and available heating utilities with typical duties 0.5-10 MMBTU/hr.

Heating Methods

Low-pressure steam provides clean reliable heating without contamination. Hot water or thermal fluid systems use waste heat recovery from process streams. Electric heating elements for small vent flows or where utilities limited. ERGIL selects heating method based on facility infrastructure, vent gas composition, and operational requirements.

Material Selection

Stainless steel construction resists corrosion from moisture and trace contaminants in vent gases. Materials suitable for wet gas service and thermal cycling. Design prevents condensation within exchanger causing corrosion or fouling. Construction per applicable standards with pressure ratings matching vent system conditions typically 5-50 psig.

Applications

Acid gas scrubber vent reheating eliminating sulfur dioxide plumes, amine plant regenerator overhead reheating, vacuum system vent warming, flare knockout drum vent conditioning, and any atmospheric discharge requiring plume suppression. Serves refineries, chemical plants, gas processing facilities, and power stations.

Control Features

Temperature control modulates heating medium maintaining target outlet temperature based on ambient conditions. Higher heating during cold weather prevents plume visibility. Automatic adjustment reduces energy consumption during mild conditions. Integration with vent system monitoring ensures proper operation.

Performance Benefits

Eliminates visible plumes addressing community relations and aesthetic concerns. Improves stack dispersion through increased buoyancy. Prevents ice formation and corrosion at discharge points. Reduces moisture condensation in vent piping. Simple proven technology with minimal maintenance requirements.

Construction Standards

Design per applicable codes with materials suitable for vent gas service. Proper drainage provisions for any condensate. Insulation optional depending on heat loss considerations. Complete documentation with heating calculations and control strategy.

ERGIL vent reheat exchangers deliver reliable gas warming eliminating plume visibility and improving atmospheric discharge performance through effective temperature control.
