OIL MIST SEPARATOR

Aerosol Removal from Compressed Air and Gas Systems

ERGIL manufactures oil mist separators that remove lubricating oil aerosols from compressed air, compressor discharge, and process gas streams protecting equipment and ensuring clean gas for instrument air, process applications, and environmental discharge.

Separation Function

Lubricated compressors generate oil mist and aerosols carried in discharge gas. Oil contamination damages pneumatic equipment, fouls catalysts, affects product quality, and violates discharge limits. Mist separators capture submicron oil droplets through coalescence reducing oil content to below 0.01-0.1 mg/m³ meeting instrument air and process requirements.

Design Configuration

Multi-stage filtration with coalescing elements agglomerating fine oil droplets into larger drops removed by gravity. Initial stage captures bulk droplets, middle stage coalesces submicron particles, final stage polishes gas. Horizontal or vertical vessels with replaceable cartridge elements. ERGIL sizes separators based on gas flow rate and required outlet oil content.

Applications

Compressed air systems supplying instrument air, reciprocating compressor discharge cleaning, process gas purification, vacuum pump exhaust treatment, and vent gas conditioning. Protects pneumatic controls, analyzers, catalysts, and downstream equipment across refineries, chemical plants, manufacturing, and power generation facilities.

Element Technology

Coalescing media using micro-glass fibers or polymer materials capture aerosols through impingement and coalescence. Multi-layer construction provides depth filtration. Proper element selection matches oil type, gas temperature, and flow conditions. Typical element life 6-12 months depending on oil loading.

Control Features

Differential pressure indicators signal element saturation requiring replacement. Automatic drain valves remove coalesced oil to collection system. High differential pressure alarms warn of approaching replacement intervals. Simple monitoring ensures continuous protection.

Material Selection

Carbon steel or aluminum construction for compressed air service. Stainless steel for corrosive gas or high-temperature applications. Element materials compatible with lubricating oils and gas composition. Design accommodates operating pressures typically 100-250 psig.

Performance Benefits

Protects instrument systems from oil contamination ensuring reliable control. Extends equipment life by delivering clean dry air. Meets process gas purity requirements. Simple cartridge replacement minimizes maintenance. Compact design suits space-constrained installations.

Construction Standards

Pressure vessels per ASME Section VIII where applicable. Element performance per ISO 8573 compressed air quality standards. Materials suitable for oil-laden gas service. Complete documentation with performance specifications.

ERGIL oil mist separators deliver effective aerosol removal ensuring clean gas for sensitive equipment and processes across diverse industrial applications.
