MIXING VESSEL
Agitated Tanks for Blending and Homogenization
ERGIL manufactures mixing vessels that blend liquids, dissolve solids, or suspend particles through mechanical agitation. These tanks with motor-driven impellers create circulation patterns that homogenize compositions, maintain suspensions, and equalize temperatures across industrial processes.
Mixing Applications
Product formulation mixes multiple liquid components achieving uniform composition. Solid dissolution adds powders to liquids until fully dissolved. Suspension mixing keeps particles dispersed preventing settling. Heat transfer agitation speeds temperature changes. Chemical dilution blends concentrated materials with diluent safely.
Vessel Configuration
Cylindrical tank with flat or dished bottom, top-mounted agitator on centerline or offset, baffles breaking rotational flow creating top-to-bottom turnover, heating/cooling jacket when temperature control needed, inlet and outlet nozzles positioned for flow pattern, and liquid level instrumentation.
Agitator Selection
Propeller mixers move high volumes at low shear for thin liquids. Turbine impellers generate turbulence for gas dispersion or fast blending. Anchor and helical designs scrape walls for viscous materials or heat transfer. Impeller diameter, speed, and blade angle match fluid properties and mixing duty.
Material Options
Carbon steel suits non-corrosive aqueous or hydrocarbon service. Stainless steel 304/316 handles food, pharmaceutical, and chemical applications. Polypropylene or FRP for acids and caustics. Rubber or specialty linings protect against abrasion or extreme corrosion.
Tank Sizing
Volume accommodates batch size plus adequate freeboard preventing vortex air entrainment or spillage. Height-to-diameter ratio typically 1:1 for liquids, adjusted for solids suspension requirements. Larger tanks need multiple impellers at different heights ensuring complete mixing.
Applications
Chemical formulation blending, water treatment polymer mixing, food ingredient combining, pharmaceutical solution preparation, paint and coating manufacture, adhesive mixing, and any process needing uniform liquid composition. Capacities from 100 liters to 50,000 liters.
Baffle Design
Vertical baffles mounted on tank wall break circular flow patterns that spin liquid without mixing. Four baffles at 90° spacing convert rotation into axial and radial flow improving blend time. Width typically 1/12 tank diameter. Critical for top-entry mixers above 200 RPM.
Power Requirements
Motor horsepower depends on liquid viscosity, impeller size and speed, and desired blend time. Water-like fluids need 0.5-2 HP per 1000 gallons. Viscous materials require 5-20 HP per 1000 gallons. Variable frequency drives adjust speed optimizing power consumption.
Temperature Control
Jacketed vessels circulate heating or cooling medium maintaining process temperature during exothermic mixing or when mixing must occur at specific temperatures. Internal coils add heat transfer area for high thermal loads. Insulation reduces external losses.
Safety Features
Torque limiters protect against mixer overload from solids bridging or bearing seizure. High-temperature shutdown prevents runaway reactions. Level switches prevent dry running or overflow. Grounding eliminates static buildup in flammable liquid service.
Construction Standards
Atmospheric tanks per API 650 or equivalent. Pressure vessels per ASME Section VIII when mixing under pressure. Agitators follow AGMA standards. Sanitary vessels meet 3-A or ASME BPE for food and pharma applications.
ERGIL mixing vessels deliver uniform blending and suspension across chemical, food, pharmaceutical, and industrial fluid processing applications.
