PROCESS COLUMN

Vertical Tower for Distillation and Absorption Operations

ERGIL manufactures process columns for distillation, absorption, stripping, and fractionation separating components based on volatility or chemical affinity. These vertical pressure vessels with internal trays or packing enable mass transfer between vapor and liquid phases across refining, gas processing, and chemical manufacturing.

Column Function

Process columns separate mixtures through countercurrent contact between rising vapor and descending liquid. Distillation separates components by boiling point difference. Absorption transfers components from gas to liquid phase. Stripping removes dissolved gases from liquids. ERGIL engineers columns for specific separation duty, capacity, and efficiency requirements.

Design Configuration

Vertical cylindrical vessel with multiple sections including feed zone, rectification or absorption section above feed, stripping section below feed, reboiler connection at bottom, overhead vapor outlet, and liquid drawoff points. Internal trays or structured packing provide vapor-liquid contact stages. Diameter sized for vapor velocity preventing flooding. Height provides required separation stages.

Internals Selection

Sieve, valve, or bubble cap trays for moderate to high liquid rates with good turndown. Structured packing for low pressure drop, high efficiency, or fouling service. Random packing for smaller columns or economic applications. Distributors ensure uniform liquid flow. ERGIL selects internals optimizing separation, pressure drop, and operating range.

Material Selection

Carbon steel construction for hydrocarbon service. Stainless steel for corrosive applications containing acids, water, or reactive compounds. Cladding or lining for severe corrosion. Materials per ASME Section VIII with appropriate temperature and pressure ratings. Internals materials resist process conditions and fouling.

Applications

Crude distillation atmospheric and vacuum towers, naphtha stabilizers, gas plant deethanizers and depropanizers, amine contactors and regenerators, glycol dehydration columns, sour water strippers, condensate fractionation, and chemical process separations across diverse industries.

Operating Pressure

Atmospheric to high pressure depending on application. Crude towers operate near atmospheric. Gas plant columns 150-600 psig. Synthesis columns to 3000 psig. Design pressure provides safety margin above operating conditions.
